Sunday Shirt

30 Jun
Day Thirteen 1-Display
{Shirt: Vintage from Buffalo Exchange; Denim Shorts: H&M; Sandals: Alloy}

This shirt is ridiculously comfortable and perfect for summer.  It’s not see through, but  the breeze travels right through it, keeping me cool.  So it’s a go-to item for me on weekends.  I also wore this shirt the previous Sunday during this 30 for 30 challenge, so I hereby dub it my Sunday Shirt.

I’d Forget My Head If It Wasn’t Attached

I’ve been quite forgetful the past week. First I totally forgot I had left these jeans at the local dry cleaners to be altered. When I remembered, I was like “Yay! Another option!” I had totally forgotten I had included these when I originally picked my 30 items.

Then when putting together my post for today I noticed I totally skipped over this day 11 post, and went straight to posting Day 12. Whoops! I guess I need to get more sleep or something.

Vegan Versions / Ash Monoi Sandals

28 Jun

This vegan version post is a little different in that I’m not currently looking for a vegan version of a designer item. Instead, I discovered a pair of sandals I had purchased last season have a much pricier non-vegan version I wasn’t aware of.

I had purchased a pair of Bamboo studded gladiator sandals (model MOD-16) last year from Alloy. I paid next to nothing for them, and I’ve worn the damn things to death. I’m actually wearing them as I write this post.

Within the past month or so, I noticed some bloggers I follow, including Kelly from the Glamourai have been sporting a very similar pair from Ash. Looks like they were at one point in time retailing for around $148-$208. You can currently get the Bamboo ones from Amazon for $29.95.

Have you ever purchased an item you like only to realize later it’s a trendy knock-off and you had no clue?  There’s one good thing about knock-offs they’re most always vegan.

I Only Dance If There’s a Pole

This past Saturday, I attended my Uncle’s 65th birthday party all the way out east on Long Island. The event was a surprise party, so my Aunt had instructed everyone to wear “wedding attire” since my Uncle had thought he was attending a friends daughter’s wedding. I’m really glad I had decided to include my convertible 70′s style jumpsuit in my 30 for 30 challenge since it worked perfectly for this event.

The party was one to remember. My family likes to go all out when it comes to parties. There was a DJ, beautiful centerpieces, lots of delicious food and plenty of drinks.

Oh, and there were cigar rollers! I love me a good cigar, I’m totally weird that way.

Day Twelve 5

My absolute, favorite part of the evening was getting to see my Great Aunt. She back a few years ago had moved to Arizona, and it’s been really difficult for her to get back to New to visit us or for us to go and visit her. My Dad managed to get her to NY as a surprise for my Uncle. She’s totally one of a kind. She’s in her 80′s, hilarious and has a horrendous potty mouth. To give you an idea, I asked her if she wanted to dance with me and she told me “I only dance if there is a pole involved!”. I was dying! I am beyond happy I got to see her!

This is what I wore Thursday of last week.  My husband and I attended a fundraiser that evening to benefit the Woodstock Animal Sanctuary.  It was held on a rooftop here in Williamsburg, and there was amazing vegan hor d’oeuvres, cocktails and entertainment.  We had heard about the event last-minute the night before, and after hearing it was going to be held so close to home we had to swing by and check it out.  All the proceeds are going to go towards repairs and improvements for the sanctuary’s duck pond and pig barn.  I have yet to actually visit the sanctuary myself, but being it’s only a two-hour drive north of the city I’m making it a goal of mine to get there before the end of the summer.

All in all we had a fantastic time and I had to opportunity to meet and network with more vegans from the area, which is always fun.

I had attempted to take more photos at the event, but again we had gray, crappy weather and none of my images came out well.  Here’s hoping the weather breaks sooner rather than later!

WTF Weather?

I noticed when putting this post together that for the vast majority of my photos for this challenge, it’s been all rainy and gray outside. I don’t know what the hell is up with this weather, but by the looks of it we haven’t seen sunshine in ages. That or the sun only comes out when I’m at the office and then disappears on my ride home for the evening.

Willburg Cafe

26 Jun

My husband and I are always on the lookout for great places for brunch. After a crazy hectic week at work, we love being able to catch up and start off our weekend days over some caffeine and breakfast.

Finding places that have great vegan options isn’t too hard in Williamsburg, but my husband not being vegan does appreciate going to places where he can get what he wants to eat occasionally. I love hitting up Willburg Cafe on Grand Street for this purpose. I can always depend on a great tofu scramble or bagel and tofu cream cheese, and my husband can still get his eggs benedict. This makes for a very happy couple and a great start to the weekend.

One of my favorite things they do here is when you get your check, it comes out in a mini treasure chest. How cute is that?

Now that it’s summer and the weather has been great, I noticed Willburg Cafe has opened up some sidewalk seating. Perfect for bringing your dog and grabbing a quick bite while enjoying the summer breeze. We can’t wait to bring Portia with us!

No Time to Eat

So yesterday I get home with a plan.  I was going to be home by 6 pm, order some takeout, and while waiting for the takeout, was going to take my photos.  Then the food would arrive, I could eat it fairly leisurely, and then at around 6:50 or so run on over to the gym for my spin class and personal training session.

I get home and the first thing I always do is feed the pets.  Our cat has diabetes, so the lucky girl always gets an insulin shot with her meals twice a day.  I go to grab a needle, and sure enough we’re out.  So then I wonder, if she doesn’t get her shot until tomorrow, will she be ok?  A quick Google search tells us that no, she can in fact go into a coma, so I now have to shove a trip to the pharmacy in my 50 minute window.

So I order our food, take my photos (and remember to turn the auto-focus on!), run to the pharmacy, and by the time I get home it’s already 6:35.

Great.

I throw on my gym clothes, determine there’s not enough time to eat, and proceed to go to the gym and am the crankiest bitch you’d ever meet.

At least I had my takeout waiting for me when I got home at 8:30 pm.

Day Seven 1- Display
{Blazer: Calvin Klein (thrifted); Tee: dollar store find; Skirt: Ecoture (gift from husband); Platforms: Cynthia Rowley (thrifted); Sunglasses: Husband’s (from a street fair); Cuff: H&M}

I’ve been learning a lot recently about taking my own outfit photos. My hubby will occasionally help out with taking my pictures but I always think I look kind of awkward when he takes them. Strange thing is I feel much more natural posing and taking photos on a tripod with a wireless release, which probably looks weirder to folks passing by in my busy neighborhood than my husband taking photos of me.

I went to art school and photography was one of my favorite classes, and I knew my way around a DSLR pretty well. Now that I finally have a new digital one, it’s kind of like riding a bike. I’m getting used to it again.  Yesterday, I originally was kinda meh about this outfit, but after seeing how my photos were coming out totally fell in love with the outfit.  I thought “Hells yeah!  I have tons of great photos today!” while looking at the screen on my camera reviewing the images I shot while outside during the shoot.  I was way pumped up about it.

Fast forward to editing my photos later on in the evening, and I learn that all of my photos are super blurry.  Only these two were remotely clear.  So much for being a pro photog.  I forgot the most important thing when taking self portraits… set the auto-focus!  That and never trust the viewfinder screen without first zooming in to check that it’s crystal clear.  Dur!  Lesson learned.

Father’s Day

21 Jun

Day 6 Display

{Top: Vintage; Jeans: Mavi; Wedges: Dolce Vita for Target}

Sunday I was exhausted and cranky most of the day being out late the night prior. Then I remembered it was Father’s Day and had to meet my Dad for dinner. I threw on the first few things I spotted in the closet (part of the challenge of course) and headed out hoping no one would notice.

Luckily, my Dad had a crazy evening the night prior and wasn’t feeling too well himself, so it at least made for some interesting dinner conversation.
